History
The band is based in the Calton area of Glasgow’s East End, an area that has been synonymous with Irish Republicanism for many years. As the name suggests, the band has been formed to commemorate all those who have died in the fight for Irish freedom. From United Irishman Theobold Wolfe Tone in 1798, to IRA Volunteer Diarmuid O'Neill in 1996. To all those men and women who have died fighting British rule. To those who have been murdered by Loyalist/Crown forces. To all those who have fallen at the hands of traitors, we must never forget. To all those that hungered for freedom, we will remember with pride. To all those who have since died of illness or natural cause, let us not forget. And let us not forget the families of these brave martyrs who have suffered more than most
Our aims are to keep alive the memories of those Republicans who paid the ultimate sacrifice. We hope to take part in commemorations, if invited to do so. We also intend to contribute in any way possible to any projects ongoing or forthcoming that commemorates our Republican dead, or supports the families of those brave men and women.
The band is not aligned to any political group or organisation, but we believe in the ongoing democratic struggle for Irish Unity and the continuing process.
The band is partnered by our support group, The Calton Republicans.
We are currently looking for new members, so if you can offer commitment to the band and our aims then contact us, but please no time-wasters. If you are interested in playing flute, drum or joining the colour party, then get in touch. The band is open to anyone over 14 years or over, regardless of: sex, creed or race. Full tuition will be given.
